Between January 1974 and September 1975, an elusive serial killer terrorized the burgeoning LGBTQ+ community of San Francisco. Operating in gay bars, diners, and cabarets across the Castro, Tenderloin, and Polk Street districts, the killer engaged victims in conversation, flattered them by sketching their portraits on napkins or paper pads, and then lured them to isolated beaches or parks where he carried out vicious knife attacks. The killer, dubbed "The Doodler," murdered at least five men and assaulted three others who survived.
